Day 2 in Leipzig (Saturday June 8th)

Hello, I am Laila DeJong and today it was my turn to write the blog entry.

We started the day by waking up early to all eat breakfast together. It was a typical German breakfast and so we had bread rolls with different types of meats, cheeses, and jams.

After spending some time doing homework, we decided to go into the city to see the sights and to spend time at the Stadfest (city festival) going on this weekend. We took a guided bus tour of the city which included sights such as the Leipzig Zoo, the Panometer building, the new and old town hall, St. Thomas church, the Monument of the Battle of the Nations, the house of Friedrich Schiller, and the concert hall of Leipzig.

50% of Leipzig is made up of parks and forests, making it very beautiful. In the city center, you can see a mix of both old architecture and modern technology.

After the tour, we walked around the city listening to music and seeing the many crazy outfits some people were wearing for the Gothic festival held in Leipzig this weekend. Many people wear all black, add crazy accessories, and wear bright makeup. Some also dye their hair bright colors for this event.

In the evening, we took an elevator up the Panorama Tower. At 142 meters tall, it is the tallest building in Leipzig with a beautiful view from the top. In addition to the Panorama Tower, we also rode the Ferris Wheel in the city center of Leipzig, giving us a birds eye view of the festivities below. We ended the day eating doners, a Turkish dish, which is a popular dinner in Germany.
